WichDOC Participates in KPU Advisory Committee

WichDOC constantly supports the alternative health community and one way is by contributing to the Traditional Chinese Medicine- Acupuncture program’s advisory committee at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU). A meeting was held recently at KPU’s Richmond, BC campus to discuss issues relating to the curriculum and ideas with respect to program advancements for their Traditional Chinese Medicine - Acupuncture program. Amongst the many Kwantlen Polytechnic University courses, this program is relatively new and has just begun entering into its second year this fall.  As a new entry in the field of Traditional Chinese Medicine – Acupuncture school, this program is gaining traction in providing acupuncture training in Vancouver, BC. Ideas were discussed in how to improve the program with both industry professionals and student/faculty all providing constructive suggestions and comments during the meeting.

Traditional Chinese Medicine – Acupuncture: The Program

Traditional Chinese Medicine - Acupuncture Program, Kwantlen Polytechnic University, Vancouver

This is a comprehensive program including courses in English and Mandarin language, communication, Ancient Chinese philosophy, and Western biomedical sciences which are necessary for the critical understanding and development of complex Traditional Chinese Medicine concepts. The curriculum has been designed to offer an education of significant breadth and rigour within the contexts of TCM/Acupuncture fundamental theory, diagnosis, treatment, and clinical practice. The program includes 460 hours of practice. Through these experiential learning activities, students will actively engage with the community. 

There are various Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture schools to assist you in becoming an acupuncturist In BC but KPU is first school with a university designation. All other schools are privately owned with several having operated in Vancouver BC for many years.
